The 72nd IIW Annual Assembly and International
The Annual IIW Congress will enable the meetings and knowledge exchange within 26 technical expert commissions. International Conference theme will be focused on solutions in automotive.
Welcome to Bratislava
Bratislava is a metropolitan city with almost a half million population, capital of the Slovak Republic since 1993, part of the European Union since 2004 and whose official currency is the euro. Bratislava is only capital in the world located on the border of three countries – Slovakia, Austria and Hungary, and the closest to another capital – Vienna. Bratislava is also an environmentally-friendly city on the Danube with unspoiled natural treasures and protected natural habitats of European significance.

IIW 2019 welded art photographic exhibition
Delegates can look forward to the welded art photographic exhibition that will be part of the 72nd IIW Annual Assembly in Bratislava. This exhibition will show an artistic spirit of the field of welding.
Photographs of amazing welded art will be staged in the main reception area of the Crowne Plaza Hotel where registration and many of the group meetings will take place. Welded art is a wonderful tool to improve the image of welding and share the beauty of the exceptional artistic work.
The exhibition will therefore showcase the flexibility and versatility of the welding discipline, and how easily it becomes another artistic medium which is capable of expressing delicate and intricate designs and forms.

WELDING RESEARCH INSTITUTE
Is an internationally recognized company active in scientific research and development and production, especially in the field of welding and allied technologies and processes.
It was founded in Bratislava in 1949 and for nearly 70 years continuously provides the highest quality innovative solutions for industry in the field of materials engineering, welding, surfacing, brazing, spraying, cutting and heat treatment.
Is a member of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and European Federation for welding, joining and cutting – European Welding Federation (EWF).
INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF WELDING (IIW)
The International Institute of Welding (IIW) was founded in 1948 by the welding institutes/societies of 13 countries who considered it crucial to make more rapid scientific and technical progress possible on a global level.
The IIW’s Mission is to operate as the global body for the science and application of joining technology, providing a forum for networking and knowledge exchange among scientists, researchers and industry. Through the work of its 23 Technical Working Units, the organisation’s technical focus encompassed the joining, cutting and surface treatment of metallic and non-metallic materials by such processes as welding, brazing, soldering, thermal cutting, thermal spraying, adhesive bonding and micro joining.
On behalf of the Welding Research Institute and the Slovak Welding Society, I have been granted the honour to invite you again after 40 years to the capital city of Bratislava for the biggest welding event in the world, the 72nd IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference, which will be held from July 7 to 12, 2019.
In 2019, the Welding Research Institute will also celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding. This will provide the opportunity to explore its 70-year history of research and development of materials, welding equipment, technologies related to the fusing of materials and cooperation with international institutions and organisations such as IIW and EWF.
Although Slovakia is such a small country with only a population of 5 million, it has provided a great deal of innovative knowledge on welding to the whole international community. The name of Professor Čabelka, founder of the Welding Research Institute, is known almost worldwide. This makes us even more eager to welcome you again to such an important event for the welding community in Bratislava in what is our jubilee year.
The main topic of the International Conference and the event in general will be: “New Progressive Materials and Welding Methods in the Automotive Industry”. This topic was chosen on the basis of the fact that new technologies required for the automotive industry will have to be developed in Slovakia, as we are the largest automobile producer per capita in the world. We are organising this event in an effort not only to create a meeting place for experts from all over the world, but also to try and create an unforgettable and friendly atmosphere to allow the greatest possible exchange of information on innovative technologies, new trends in welding and soldering. We want to provide opportunities for creating global contacts and links to support research activities and to reinforce personal relationships and friendships. We are fully aware that by speeding up information technologies and transport options, barriers to the exchange of information and the creation of world-class international teams have already been disrupted, and we hope that our event continues to support this trend.
We have prepared extremely interesting sightseeing tours to places in Slovakia which are well worth seeing, not just for experts, but also for their family members and companions. They are divided into technical, cultural, social and historical themes. The venue is easily accessible from the international airports in Bratislava and Vienna and via our extensive network of motorways. Did you know that these two cities are the closest capital cities in the world, being only 66 kilometres apart? We are trying to ensure that you will not only acquire more professional knowledge, but also learn more about Bratislava and Slovakia.
We look forward to your participation and believe that IIW 2019, as it has previously, will be held in the spirit of a collegial and friendly atmosphere. We will do our best to prepare and organise everything to ensure you enjoy yourselves in Bratislava, in the heart of Europe, and profit from a rich professional, cultural and social programme.
Let’s meet in Bratislava in 2019 – your presence will be a key part in the event’s success!
